MariModerator: Mariecar Mendoza is a Los Angeles News Group Features Digital Director, focused on covering the music, food and festival scene of Los Angeles County for the group’s nine publications. Mendoza took on the digital leadership role after less than a year as a general assignment multimedia reporter for the Los Angeles Daily News.  Prior to moving to L.A. in 2012, Mendoza worked as a multimedia reporter for The Desert Sun, a Gannett publication, in Palm Springs for nearly six years covering everything from city hall and courts to film and music festivals. Mendoza is an alumna of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a Chips Quinn Scholar (2007). She has been involved in the Asian American Journalist Association since 2006 and now serves as Vice President of Print for the L.A. chapter. GiselaModerator: Gisela Margarita Perez, Assignment Editor, KABC-TV, Associate Producer, Fusion. A natural in front of the camera, Gisela brings her upbeat personality and charisma to any assignment. She has a knack for covering not only hard news but also celebrity and lifestyle news.  Gisela has worked for several of television’s biggest networks and covered some of Hollywood’s most prestigious events. She’s reported on the Young Hollywood Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Golden Globes, and Donna Morgan’s Spring/Summer preview, often writing and producing many of her own segments.  Gisela has been a field producer or correspondent for Dateline NBC, KTLA, ABC7’s OTRC, Hollyscoop, UWire, and Crown City News, as well as worked for The Hollywood Reporter, KABC-TV, Capital News 9, and News 10 Now.  All of her combined experience has been exceptional preparation for a career in TV. In the past 5 years she has moved around quite a bit and in doing so has been exposed to so many amazing opportunities. Claire-150Claire Marshall is a senior at California State University, Northridge, completing her degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and a collateral field in urban studies. She is currently President of CSUN’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.  In this position, Marshall directs the overall responsibilities of the chapter and motivates the executive board and members with her enthusiastic attitude toward PRSSA. She establishes goals and objectives for the chapter and delegates the responsibilities of the officers. She also presides over all membership and executive board meetings and stays in contact with the PRSSA National Committee. She previously held the position of Director of Student Relations, a title that required her to promote PRSSA’s member benefits, aid in recruitment, and act as the Chapter’s ambassador on a national and regional level. Marshall is currently interning at PMBC Group, a public relations firm in Beverly Hills. After graduation, she hopes to find a job doing tech, corporate or brand-marketing public relations work in the Los Angeles area.

He’s also highly engaged with viewers on Google+, Pinterest, Instagram and Path, a mobile social network. He uses his news stories across multiple social media platforms in both the digital sphere and on television. He is also known for leveraging the ‘second screen’ experience by encouraging the station’s viewers to engage on Twitter and Facebook. Medina joined NBC4 as an anchor and manager of “News Raw,” a news show that aired on the station’s digital channel, which focused on hyper local news coverage, culture, technology and social media. Coincidentally, Facebook and Twitter were taking off around the same time and Medina used these social media outlets to offer content that he reported on NBC4. Prior to joining NBC4, Medina was a general assignment reporter for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, KPNX-TV in Phoenix, and NBC television affiliates, KOB-TV (NBC) in Albuquerque, and KTSM (NBC) in El Paso.  Medina currently serves as Vice President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Los Angeles Chapter. He is also secretary of UNITY Journalists for Diversity, and is a member of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association and the Native American Journalists Association. Nicole ChildersNicole Childers is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, broadcast executive producer, celebrity social media and brand strategist/consultant and multimedia news manager based in Los Angeles.  An alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania, she began her career in journalism as an intern for Diane Sawyer at ABC News. Childers went on to serve as Associate Producer for World News Tonight with the late Peter Jennings. In 2004, she helped to launch ABC News Now as a producer for the pioneering ABC News digital channel.  Following her inaugural efforts at ABC News Now, Childers served as executive producer at NPR for the groundbreaking daily news magazine show, News & Notes. Childers has won nearly every major journalism award, including an Emmy, Peabody, and a Columbia Dupont award; a Business Emmy Award; 2 Edward R. billBill Imada is Founder, Chairman and Chief Collaboration Officer of the IW Group (formerly Imada Wong Communications Group), a full-service communications firm that specializes in the growing multicultural markets in the United States.  With more than 20 years of experience in marketing, public relations, advertising and training, Bill and his company represent some of the top global and domestic brands, including American Airlines, Bank of the West, Coca-Cola, Farmers Insurance, Godiva, Kaiser Permanente, McDonald’s, MetLife, Verizon Wireless, Walmart Stores, Walt Disney Imagineering, Warner Bros. As a professional child actor some of her credits include award winning filmmaker Arthur Dong’s “Lotus”, “Kidsongs” videos, television shows “China Beach ” and “General Hospital”, and voices for animated TV shows “The Real Ghostbusters,” “Slimer”, and “Captain Planet”.  Most recently you may have heard April in the TV series “Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness”, the feature film “Kung Fu Panda 2: Kaboom of Doom”, the feature film and the interactive game “The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”, and motion capture for other interactive games. On-camera TV credits include “Desperate Housewives”, “90210”, “ER”, and “Numbers” and national commercials for Microsoft and Chrysler. Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Television-Multimedia Production with a minor in Theatre at California State University, Northridge, April has worked in various production positions including casting and producing for short films and voice over projects.  As a professional actor for 20 years with training in various acting techniques, including those of her father James Hong, actor of over 500 TV, film and animation roles, she is now pursuing her teaching career and passing on what she and her father have learned throughout their careers with people of all ages from around the world.  Since 2005, April has been teaching acting for professional actors and those who seek professional and personal development. In 2009 she became a certified Teaching Artist at the Actors Fund of America Teaching Artist Institute. Her current services also include consulting in the integration of acting into curriculum and existing programs. Her unique approach has been known to bridge gaps between generations and cultures.  She has emceed various community events including the Chinese American Museum’s Annual Lantern Festival for the last 5 years now. Her acting career has also lead her to work in the community with the Los Angeles Police Department’s successful detective training program acting as a victim that the detectives practice interviewing techniques on in preparation for real life situations. Within the Asian American community April has taught acting workshops for M. Janet Chin Youth Foundation, Chinese American Citizens Alliance, and Asian American Drug Abuse Program. Starting in March 2014, she will teach youth and adults in Alhambra for the first time and her father, James Hong, will teach for one of the 6 sessions! April enjoys sharing this performing art called acting which often leaves people feeling empowered and liberated!

FumeroAlex Fumero is Director of Programming & Development for Fusion, a joint-venture cable network of ABC and Univision that launched in the fall of 2013. Before joining Fusion, he was Director of Marketing & Digital Production at Pantelion Films (Lionsgate/Televisa). Fumero has a diverse background including production, writing and performance in film, TV and theater, with his work appearing at the Sundance Film Festival and the NY International Fringe Festival. lmb glassesLynita Mitchell-Blackwell, Attorney & CPA, is the CEO of The Leading Through Living Community, a personal and professional development organization that encourages, equips, and champions people to be successful members of and leaders for their communities, in their professions, and personally. LTLC accomplishes this through individual coaching, workshops, and on-going support and opportunity identification.  Lynita is also author of Leading Through Living: A Guide for Women Seeking Growth Through Leadership, a “mentor in your pocket”, blogger, and freelance columnist with work published in Pose Magazine and My Magazine for Girls.  Lynita has developed and executed workshops for corporate, educational, and non-profit organizations, including the non-profit she co-founded – the Jewell Jackson McCabe Emerging Leaders Institute, Inc. – for which she has been recognized with the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation President’s Call to Service Award and Black Enterprise Magazine as a “BE NEXT 35” Young and Bold Business Leaders. Lynita serves as the Georgia Chapter President of the American Association of Attorney-CPAs, Atlanta Advisory Board Chair of the New Leaders Council, and on the Executive Committee of the Douglas County Democratic Party. She was recently honored as one of Atlanta’s Leading Counselors At Law by Who’s Who in Black Atlanta for her outstanding service.  Lynita earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Florida A&M University, International Comparative Law/Commercial Arbitration Certificate from Johannes Kepler Universitat Linz, Austria, and Juris Doctor degree from Georgia State University College of Law. She is married to Rev. Brian Blackwell and they have one daughter.
